At Red Door Yoga® we believe in working for the benefit of the greater community.

To this end, we extend our energy beyond our studio walls in a variety of ways:

The Yogic Way® Magazine

Red Door Yoga® publishes The Yogic Way®, a highly professional yoga magazine that is available to everyone, everywhere, completely free of charge. The publication is provided purely for the purpose of education, support, and changing the world for the better. It is not supported or influenced by advertisers, and so maintains its integrity of purpose. We publish online only, out of respect for our environment.

Supporting Charities

Every year, Red Door Yoga® chooses a charity to support. We donate our time, knowledge, space, and finances towards running events that raise both awareness and funds for the chosen charity. Charities supported in the past include The Canadian Cancer Society, The Heart & Stroke Foundation, Amnesty International, and The MS Society.

Promoting Catalysts for Positive Change

We support other organizations that work as catalysts for positive change, by telling their story in The Yogic Way® Magazine. This brings awareness to their work, and encourages others to lend support to these groups.

Running Seva Classes

To help those less financially able to attend regular-priced classes, while supporting organizations that help the greater community, Red Door Yoga® runs seva (selfless service) classes once per week. These classes are held on Sunday evenings at 7:30pm. Students are asked to bring a $5 donation and a canned food item, while certified yoga teachers as well as teachers-in-training donate their teaching time. Food items are donated to the local food banks, and all money raised go towards supporting classes for those with special needs (MS, Autism, etc.).

Supporting the Arts

Red Door Yoga® supports the arts in Nanaimo by sponsoring the Fringe Flicks yearly. The Fringe Flicks is a presentation of independent films chosen from film festivals (Cannes, Berlin, L.A., Toronto, and the like). With Theatre One, we help provide the opportunity for local audiences to see first-run foreign and domestic alternative films that might not otherwise receive a big-screen showing here. Money raised by the FringeFlicks then assists us in ensuring that professional, live theatre produced locally, by local & regional artists continues to thrive. Enjoy the films!
